I admit at the outset that this topic is probably more complicated than it appears, but from someone who does not participate in the mainstream social media platforms, it is cut and dried to me. From my very simplistic view, two things stick out to me – 1) the 1st amendment protects us from government intervention into our speech, not private companies, and 2) each user must agree to the terms of service before using any social media platform. My most basic reaction to the common complaint from either side of the argument is “if you don’t like it, either don’t participate or build your own platform”.
As my experience in this area is somewhat limited, I know that I do not understand all the nuances of this topic. I look forward to reading the back and forth on this issue to gain a deeper insight.
